The Greene County boys earned a sweet hoops victory 83-65 over undefeated PCM at home Friday night. The PCM Mustangs entered the game undefeated and ranked fourth in Class 2A, while the Rams held a modest 3-7 overall record.
The Rams scored six 3-point shots in the first quarter to start the game. Free throws were the story of the fourth quarter; the Rams were successful in 23 of 29 trips to the free throw line.
Freshman Trey Tucker led the Rams with 24 points and sophomore Mitchell Gorsuch scored 20. Gorsuch’s total included six 3-point shots. Sophomore Tyler Beger scored 12 and junior Landon Braun scored nine. Senior Will Meinecke and junior Riah Nelsen scored seven points.
The game was only the second loss for PCM in its last 42 regular season games.
The girls lost their fifth straight Heart of Iowa Activities Conference game, falling to the Mustangs 68-46. Kayla Mobley scored 19 points and brought down 18 rebounds, tying the school record for the most rebounds in a single game. “PCM is a good team. I though we played a better game against them, but we didn’t handle the ball well enough,” coach Chad Morton said. “Kayla had an outstanding game.”
The Ram girls are 5-6 in the HOIAC and 6-7 overall.
